Mechové jezírko is a true hidden gem — the only glacial lake on the Czech side of the Krkonoše (Giant Mountains). Small but remarkably special, this mossy little lake sits quietly in a spruce forest, offering a rare glimpse into the region's ancient glacial past.

Perched at 944 m above sea level in the valley of Kotelský Brook, just below the glacial cirques of Kotelní jámy, the lake is tiny but full of character. Its triangular shape stretches just 46.6 m in length and 24 m in width, with shores almost entirely carpeted by peat moss — including the rare Sphagnum dusenii. Water crowfoot blooms on the surface in spring. In autumn, mist drifts across the still water and the surrounding spruce trees drip with moisture, creating an almost magical atmosphere. In summer, the lake glimmers like an emerald hidden deep in the forest.

The name 'Mechové jezírko' — meaning 'Mossy Little Lake' — was given by naturalist Vlastimil Pilous in 1979, inspired by the dense peat mosses that define this enchanting spot.
