Tucked away on a valley terrace in the Batizovská Valley of the High Tatras, the Small Batizovce Tarn is a quiet, intimate little lake that rewards hikers with a sense of peaceful solitude amid dramatic mountain scenery. At around 1,920 metres above sea level, it sits just 150 metres southwest of the larger Batizovské pleso, making it an easy highlight to add to any hike along the famous Tatra Magistrale trail.
The tarn's calm surface reflects the surrounding rocky slopes on clear days, and the atmosphere shifts beautifully with the seasons — from snowmelt freshness in spring and vivid alpine greenery in summer, to fiery autumn colours and a hushed, frost-covered stillness in winter. It is a small place, but one with real character and a wonderful sense of mountain wilderness.
How to get thereBecause the tarn sits right beside the Tatra Magistrale — one of the most iconic long-distance trails in the entire Carpathians — you can admire it almost 'in passing', without any significant detour.
