Robber's Cave is a small but fascinating karst cave hidden within the former Solvay quarry near the village of Křižany. It's a place where the story of quarrying meets a surprising underground world - all wrapped in a local legend about robbers, which gave the cave its name.

The cave was uncovered on the southwestern slope of Lom hill (683 m above sea level), right along the tectonic line of the Lusatian Fault. The three-level Solvay quarry was once the largest limestone quarry in the Ještěd Ridge area, and mining here revealed not only several caves but also a dramatic recumbent fold in Devonian limestones and phyllitic schists. Today the area blends into the peaceful landscape of the Ještěd Nature Park, and a walk along the yellow circular trail lets you soak up the atmosphere in any season - from green summer greenery to the quiet chill of winter, when bats hibernate inside the cave.

• From Křižany railway station (line 86 Liberec - Česká Lípa) - follow the green trail across the western slope of Lom hill towards Kryštofovo Údolí, then from the Pod Solvayovým lomem junction take the yellow circular trail; easy to moderate difficulty

• The interior of the cave is locked and closed to visitors to protect the bats living inside
• Three bat species have been recorded hibernating here, and up to nine species during the autumn swarming period
• The known part of the cave is 22 meters long, and its far end still holds thick sinter crusts, stalactites and stalagmites

Even though you can't step inside, the trail and its detailed information panels bring the cave's story to life - a place where nature and old mining history are woven together in one remarkable tale.
