Lom (683 m) is a modest but distinctive hill near Liberec, tucked away within the Ještěd Nature Park. It's a quiet spot for hikers who enjoy an easy walk through forest with a bit of geological curiosity along the way.

The hill forms an asymmetrical dome, tectonically uplifted along the Lusatian Fault, and is composed of a mix of metamorphic and sedimentary rocks dating back to the Paleozoic era. Its slopes are covered with coniferous and mixed forest, with only the summit area left open. Several old quarries dot the hillside, likely the source of the hill's name (Lom means 'quarry' in Czech). The mood shifts with the seasons - cool shade under summer canopy, vivid colors in autumn, and quiet, snow-dusted stillness in winter.

How to reach the summit

• From Novina or Křižany - nearby trail access, short walking time, easy difficulty
• A red-marked trail runs north of the summit, a green-marked trail to the west

Practical information

• Closest access by car is to Novina, Křižany, or the road connecting them
• The Liberec - Česká Lípa railway line with Křižany station skirts the hill to the east and south
• Via the Křižanské sedlo saddle, Lom connects to the neighboring peak Bukovka (672 m)

The old quarries scattered across the slopes gave the hill its name, and traces of this mining past can still be spotted among the trees today.
