Malý Ještěd (754 m) is a quiet, lesser-known summit living in the shadow of its famous neighbour, Ještěd. It's a place for hikers who prefer forest trails and a bit of forgotten history over crowded viewpoints.

The peak sits within the Ještěd Nature Park, part of the Ještěd-Kozákov Ridge range. Its slopes are gently forested, typical of the Jizera Mountains foothills, offering pleasant walking in every season — shaded greenery in summer, colourful foliage in autumn, and peaceful snow-covered trails in winter. Don't expect dramatic rock formations here; instead, you'll find the understated, wild charm of the Bohemian uplands.

How to reach the summit

• Novina — red-marked trail connecting Tetřeví sedlo and Křižanské sedlo, easy to moderate terrain
• Křižany — closest point to drive to, then continue on foot via the red trail

Practical information

• The red trail passes just north of the actual summit point
• No hut or shelter remains on the summit today — the former Jäckelbaude was demolished decades ago

Fun fact: from 1906, a wooden hut called Jäckelbaude stood here, built and run by a retired soldier named Wenzel Jäckel. After the war it changed hands several times until it was torn down by the Forest Administration in the 1960s, closing nearly sixty years of history at this remote spot.
