Kamenný hřib, meaning 'Stone Mushroom' in Czech, is a striking granite boulder in the Ore Mountains that truly lives up to its name. This bizarre rock formation is one of those quirky natural landmarks that make you stop and stare - a massive block that narrows at its base, giving it the unmistakable shape of a giant stone mushroom.

The granite block, roughly 4 × 3 meters wide and 3 meters tall, formed through the weathering and disintegration of the Karlovy Vary granite massif. Horizontal cracks have split it into several sections, and its edges have been rounded smooth by centuries of erosion. The surrounding landscape, once covered in beech forest, has since been cleared into meadows and pastures dotted with hazel, rowan, sycamore maple, and birch. The boulder itself is bare of vegetation, but the nearby meadow hosts the rare spignel plant, and you might spot a viviparous lizard basking nearby. The open, gently rolling terrain around the rock offers a peaceful atmosphere in every season, with the mushroom-shaped boulder standing out dramatically against the sky.
