Windacher Daunkogel rises to 3348 m in the Stubai Alps of Tyrol, completely encircled by glaciers - a peak that rewards climbers with a genuine high-alpine adventure. The surrounding icefields and sweeping ridge views make it a memorable destination for experienced mountain hikers.

The summit sits in the Hochstubai area, where the ridge splits southward toward the Warenkarscharte and onward to the Warenkarseitenspitze, and northwest along the Sulztal ridge. To the east, the ridge continues to the Westlicher Daunkogel, near where the Stubai Glacier ski area begins. The mountain is surrounded by glaciers on all sides: the broad, crevassed Sulztalferner to the north, the Warenkarferner to the southeast, and the crevassed Wütenkarferner descending southwest toward the Ötztal valley. In winter and spring, it also draws ski tourers.

• Hochstubaihütte — via the Wütenkarferner glacier to the Warenkarscharte and up the southwest ridge, about 1.5 hours, demanding terrain with grade II climbing, unmarked above the saddle
• Hochstubaihütte — alternative route over the Warenkarseitenspitze via the Himmelsleiter path, an exposed ledge, and the southwest ridge, marked route, sections of grade II
• Hildesheimer Hütte — marked trail from the east, crossing three smaller glaciers (Gaiskarferner, Windacher Ferner, Warenkarferner)

• The Wütenkarferner has developed problematic crevasses in recent years
• The former route from the Amberger Hütte via the Wütenkarscharte and west ridge is now harder and riskier due to a rockfall, leaving a sharp, brittle 15-meter grade II+ ridge section
• The mountain is also popular as a ski tour, notably from the Amberger Hütte and Hildesheimer Hütte
