Hoher Nebelkogel (3211 m) is one of those rare Alpine 3000ers that rewards you with a genuine high-mountain feel without demanding technical climbing skills. It's a great pick for hikers wanting to bag a proper summit in the western Stubai Alps.

The peak sits in a rugged, rocky and partly glaciated landscape typical of the high Stubai region. Just to the north, perched on the Wildkarspitze (3173 m) - a subsidiary summit of Hoher Nebelkogel - stands the Hochstubaihütte, a popular base for climbers in the area. The views stretch across the surrounding Stubai peaks, and the character of the mountain shifts with the seasons: rocky and exposed in summer, snow-covered and more demanding in spring and early summer. To the south rises another neighboring summit, the Niederer Nebelkogel (3070 m).

• Hochstubaihütte — northeast ridge, approx. 15 minutes, very easy climbing
