Vrch Tří pánů is a quiet summit in the Ore Mountains (Krušné hory) that rewards visitors with wide-open views and a curious backstory behind its name. Standing at 874.4 metres, it's a peak for those who enjoy heathland scenery and a sense of space rather than dramatic rock formations.

The landscape here has a raw, open character typical of the higher parts of the Ore Mountains - treeless plateaus and heather-covered slopes give way to a steep drop into the Domaslavice valley to the south. In summer the heath blooms and the wind sweeps freely across the open ground; in winter the plateau can feel bleak and exposed under snow, but on clear days the views stretch to Komáří hůrka, across to the German side of the mountains, and down into the valley where the town of Teplice lies.

How to reach the summit

• From the town of Hrob - red-marked trail (part of the international E3 route), about 1-1.5 hours, easy
• From Nové Město (part of Moldava) - hiking path and cycling route No. 23 running along the southern side of the hill

Practical information

• About 200 metres southeast of the summit there's a signposted junction with a tourist shelter called Vrch Tří Pánů
• The E3 international trail runs directly over the summit
• Roughly 1.5 km northeast, on the treeless Hutunk plateau, stand three wind turbines of the U Tří pánů wind farm, named Ferdinand, Bronislav, and Vavřinec

Despite the turbines nearby, the hill's name has nothing to do with them - it actually comes from an old tripoint where three former estates once met, a naming pattern found in a few other places across the Czech Republic.
