Doubravská hora is a lone phonolite hill on the edge of Teplice, crowned with the atmospheric ruins of a medieval castle, a cozy restaurant, and a lookout tower. It's a place where history and legend blend together, rewarding a short walk with sweeping views over the České středohoří volcanic landscape.

Rising to just 396 m above sea level, this solitary cone-shaped hill is visible from afar thanks to its striking silhouette. Its slopes are cloaked in deciduous forest, protected as the Doubravka nature reserve, home to the rare hermit beetle and other insects tied to old, decaying wood. In summer the hill buzzes with day-trippers from Teplice, autumn dresses the slopes in gold and rust, and winter lends the crumbling castle walls an especially eerie, romantic mood — fitting for a hill so steeped in tales of witches and knights.

How to reach the summit

• Teplice (parking at the base, near the trolleybus line 5 turnaround) — yellow trail, short and easy hike
• Alternatively: a paved concrete road from the base (closed to vehicles), also walkable

Legend has it that an evil witch once terrorized travelers here until a wandering knight defeated her — the marks of her claws are said to remain visible on the nearby Witch's Stone at the hill's foot.
