Rubín is a small but strikingly distinctive hill in the Most Basin, rising above the village of Dolánky in northern Bohemia. Standing at just 353 meters above sea level, its steep volcanic slopes make it a dramatic landmark visible from far around.

The hill formed from a Tertiary basanite diatreme, and its northern and western flanks drop more than eighty meters into the valley of the Dolánecký stream, creating a striking, steep face. The southern and eastern approaches are considerably gentler. The flat, elongated summit plateau, roughly 110 by 60 meters, hosts a valuable habitat of heat-loving flora, making it a small botanical treasure. In spring and summer the slopes come alive with color, while in autumn and winter the rocky silhouette takes on a bold, rugged character.

How to reach the summit

• From Dolánky village or near Podbořany — a short but steep ascent from the north, approx. 30-45 minutes, moderate difficulty
• A gentler approach is possible from the south or east side, taking somewhat longer but easier walking

Practical information

• The summit holds the remains of the prehistoric and early medieval Rubín hillfort
• Small quarries operated here around the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, and traces of old stone extraction can still be seen on the slopes
