Hochplatte is a striking limestone plateau towering over the landscape, the highest point in the Ostallgäu district and one of the most distinctive summits of the Ammergau Alps. Its exposed, rocky character makes it a rewarding destination for hikers seeking sweeping mountain panoramas.

The mountain has two summits about 200 meters apart — the eastern one, slightly lower at 2079 meters, carries a summit cross. The surrounding terrain is classic karst: rugged, open, and dramatic, with far-reaching views toward neighboring peaks such as Krähe, Gabelschrofen, Gumpenkarspitze, Geiselstein, Firstberg, and Scheinbergspitze. In summer, the route crosses sunlit alpine terrain and rocky ridgelines, while in winter Hochplatte becomes a popular ski touring goal, though its exposed slopes demand experience and stable snow conditions.

How to reach the summit

• Kenzenhütte — via Scheinbergalpe and karst terrain on the east side to the summit, about 3 hours in practice, moderate difficulty
• Via the Fensterl and the saddle between Krähe and Hochplatte, then along the western ridge to the summit — a more demanding route (T4) with short UIAA I climbing sections, partly secured with ropes in difficult spots
