The Hochfelln (1674 m) is one of the most iconic peaks of the Chiemgau Alps, rising above the towns of Bergen and Ruhpolding. Whether you hike up or take the cable car, this summit rewards visitors with sweeping alpine views and a genuinely welcoming atmosphere.

From the top, panoramic views stretch across the Chiemgau Alps toward the taller neighboring peak, the Hochgern (1748 m). In summer, green alpine pastures and traditional huts (Almen) dot the slopes, while in winter the mountain becomes a popular destination thanks to the operating cable car. The terrain is generally gentle, though some approaches from the Ruhpolding side require sure-footedness.

• A 7-metre summit cross, cast at the Maximilianshütte foundry in Bergen, was carried up in pieces and installed in 1886
• The true highest point lies about 80 m south of the summit cross, marked by the Tabor Chapel

The mountain also has a fascinating geological past - ammonite fossils millions of years old have been found near the summit, and a former alabaster quarry, now buried under scree, lies close by.
