Rauschberg is a favorite hiking destination in the Chiemgau Alps, famous above all for its sweeping panorama over the entire Bavarian foothills. The Vorderer Rauschberg (1645 m) is an easily accessible summit that appeals to families and seasoned hikers alike.

The landscape here is classic Northern Limestone Alps terrain, with rocky ridges and glacially shaped basins. In summer the trails wind through meadows and forest, and the summit rewards visitors with views of the Unternberg, Hochfelln, Lake Chiemsee, Hochstaufen, Zwiesel and Ristfeuchthorn, plus the Watzmann, Steinernes Meer, Hochkalter and the Kaiser Mountains, and on clear days even the Großglockner and Großvenediger. In winter Rauschberg becomes a ski touring area, with the old family run and the notoriously steep Roßgasse, one of the steepest ski descents in Upper Bavaria, drawing experienced tourers.

• An alpine nature trail near the summit showcases typical high mountain plants

The summit cross, erected in 1984 by a local traditional costume association, commemorates the fallen of Ruhpolding from both world wars.
