Doubek is a small, dome-shaped hill near Mimoň that hides more than just forest - a medieval hillfort once stood on its summit. At just 336 m above sea level it won't take your breath away with altitude, but its history and quiet atmosphere make it a worthwhile short trip.

The hill has a roughly triangular profile and is covered with mixed forest, offering pleasant shade in summer and, once the leaves fall, glimpses through the trees toward the former village of Svébořice and the neighbouring hill of Brada. The Svébořický stream curves around it from the east, north and west, with several fishponds dotting the surrounding area. This is a peaceful, little-visited corner of the former Ralsko military area, which adds a touch of mystery - remnants of trenches and a shaft from a Soviet-era water tank can still be found here. On the summit, a circular ditch and rampart survive from a medieval castle that stood here from the second half of the 13th century into the 14th century.

How to reach the summit

• By car along the road from Mimoň (Hvězdov) - former Svébořice - Hamr na Jezeře (Osečná), followed by a short walk on a forest path - easy route.

Practical information

• The summit preserves traces of a medieval hillfort (ditch and rampart) as well as trenches and a shaft from the Soviet military presence.
• The area once lay within the former Ralsko military zone, now open for visitors.

This is a place where nature has quietly reclaimed the land once occupied by the vanished village of Svébořice and a military past - a walk here feels like stepping through forgotten history.
