Malý Jelení vrch is a small basalt summit tucked into the landscape near Hamr na Jezeře, part of the Ralsko Geopark. It's a great pick for hikers who enjoy a quiet walk combined with a bit of geological curiosity - the summit exposes raw volcanic rock right at the surface.

The upper section of the hill impresses with its distinctive columnar jointing of basalt, visible where the rock breaks through the surface. Beneath the rocks, hidden among the roots of old beech trees, lies a small pond that gives the place a slightly mysterious feel. The terrain is wooded, so don't expect sweeping panoramas, but the forest atmosphere and rocky formations more than make up for it. The beech woods are especially attractive in spring and autumn.

How to get to the summit

• Hamr na Jezeře - several footpaths lead directly to the hill, easy to moderate difficulty
• Stráž pod Ralskem - accessible by car, then a short hike; a red-marked trail to Děvín Castle passes just to the north

• Together with the neighboring Velký Jelení vrch, the hill is protected as the Jelení vrchy nature monument
• The area forms part of the Ralsko Geopark
• Nearest access by car is via Hamr na Jezeře or Stráž pod Ralskem
