Stohánek is a small sandstone rock near Ralsko with a story far bigger than its size - once home to a rock castle and later a hermitage. Rising just 23-25 metres above the surrounding terrain, it packs centuries of history into a compact, atmospheric spot.

The landscape around Stohánek is classic Ralsko country - forests interspersed with sandstone outcrops. The rock itself has a slightly mystical feel, with niches carved into the stone, remnants of old doorways, and the outline of a possible medieval chapel. In autumn and winter, when the trees thin out, the rock stands out more dramatically, and the quiet surroundings still invite the same kind of reflection that once drew hermits here.

• From Hamr na Jezeře - green trail to Malý Jelení vrch, then red trail towards Stráž pod Ralskem, easy to moderate route
• An access road runs along the eastern foot of the hill, marked as cycle route no. 3046

• The site is protected as the Stohánek natural monument
• A rectangular structure on the summit plateau, possibly medieval in origin, served as a chapel in the 18th century
• The original entrance to the plateau was through a rock fissure closed by a door - traces of the door fittings are still visible

Interestingly, the story of the last hermitess of Stohánek was immortalised by writer Karolina Světlá in her tale 'Poslední poustevnice', where she called the rock Strouhánek.
