Lanův Kopec is a small yet distinctive summit rising from the landscape of the former Ralsko military training area, tucked deep inside the Židlov game reserve. It's the highest point of this enclosed wildlife park, and its cone-like shape stands out clearly against the flat sandstone plateaus around it.

The hill is a dome-shaped neovolcanic knob formed on an exposed basalt vein, rising above the flat denudation surfaces of Turonian quartz sandstone typical of the surrounding area. Its slopes are covered by mixed forest, and the summit still bears a scar from past volcanic rock quarrying. There's a slightly wild, quiet atmosphere here - the village of Dolní Novina once stood at its northern foot before it disappeared when the military zone took over; today only an old waterworks building remains on the summit. Just 1.1 km southwest lies its twin peak, Svébořický Špičák, only a metre lower.

How to reach the summit

• From former Svébořice, along the road toward Hamr na Jezeře (west of the hill) - the closest access point by car
• From the U sv. Františka crossroads (north of the hill), along the road toward Osečná, continuing by bike to the reserve's fence, which runs along the hill's northern foot

Practical information

• The area lies within the Židlov game reserve - part of the roads pass through a quiet zone where wild European bison may be encountered, and access can be closed to the public
• An alternative route from the crossroads leads into the Zábrdka valley

Fun fact: the old waterworks on the summit likely once supplied water to the now-vanished village of Dolní Novina, which stood at the hill's northern foot before the area became a military zone.
