Hidden in the heart of the Ukrainian Carpathians, the Zhenets Huk Waterfall is one of the most rewarding natural spots in the Gorgany mountain region. Water tumbles freely from a height of 15 metres, filling the valley with a deep, resonant roar — and it is precisely that roar ('huk' in Ukrainian) that gave this place its name. Come here once and you will want to return.

Sitting at 900 metres above sea level along the Zhenets stream — a left tributary of the Prut river — the waterfall is framed by dense Carpathian forest between the Yavornyk and Khomyak-Synyak ridges. Every season brings a different mood: spring snowmelt turns the falls wild and powerful, summer offers cool shade and the sound of rushing water, autumn paints the surrounding forest in warm amber tones, and winter transforms the cascade into spectacular ice sculptures. The entire area falls within the Carpathian National Nature Park, keeping the landscape beautifully unspoiled.

• From the Mykuychyn — Vorokhta road (approx. 5 km from the highway): first along a paved road, then a well-maintained dirt track leading directly to the waterfall — easy, suitable for all fitness levels.
• From Tatariv railway station: approx. 9 km, mostly dirt road — moderate.
• From Mykuychyn railway station: approx. 10 km — moderate.

• A barrier gate marks the start of the dirt road section — access may be checked.
• About 2 km from Zhenets Huk lies the lesser-known Narynets Waterfall, worth combining into one trip.
• The site is protected within the Carpathian National Nature Park.

Interestingly, the waterfall is a relatively young formation — it came into existence only after World War II, shaped by a major flood event that carved the rocky steps of the Zhenets stream.
