Dovbushanka (1754 m) is one of the wildest and most remote peaks in the Ukrainian Carpathians — a place where ancient forests, boulder-strewn slopes and deep silence make you feel genuinely far from the modern world. If you are drawn to raw, untouched mountain wilderness, this summit in the Gorgany massif will leave a lasting impression.

The ridge is blanketed in forest covering more than 84% of its surface, with spruce old-growth stands aged 150–200 years and dense thickets of dwarf pine and juniper that make off-trail movement a serious challenge. The atmosphere shifts with the seasons: misty and mysterious in spring and autumn, lush and deeply green in summer. From the ridge on a clear day you are rewarded with sweeping views across the Gorgany peaks and the valleys of the Zubrivka and Fedotsyl rivers below.

• From the village of Bystrytsya — unmarked route, demanding terrain; the most popular starting point, passing a small artificial lake and forest clearings with shepherd huts along the Dovzhynets river.
• From the villages of Zelena or Chernyk — alternative starting points, also without marked trails.

• The entire Dovbushanka-Polensky ridge lies within the 'Gorgany' Nature Reserve — tourist visits are officially prohibited under Ukrainian law.
• There are no marked trails anywhere on the massif.
• Reserve wardens conduct regular patrols to identify unauthorised visitors.
• Setting up tourist camps or bivouacking within the reserve is forbidden.

Hidden among the boulder fields above 1500 m lives a glacial-age relic beetle — the Ukrainian endemic subspecies of Carabus fabricii, a flightless ground beetle found nowhere else in the world outside Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast. A truly remarkable survivor from the Ice Age.
