The Svidovets Mountains are one of the most unspoiled and overlooked ranges in the Eastern Carpathians — a vast, alpine-meadow-covered massif in the Zakarpattia region of western Ukraine, where you can hike for hours without seeing another soul. If you crave raw, authentic mountain wilderness, this is your destination.
The main ridge stretches roughly 25 km from northwest to southeast, with long lateral spurs — known as the Svidovets Plajs — reaching far to the south. Above the treeline at around 1,300 m, sweeping polonyna grasslands open up, once busy with sheep herding and now peacefully empty. Glacial cirques and small mountain lakes dot the northern and eastern slopes, and the near-absence of dwarf pine means views stay wide and unobstructed. On a clear day you can see the Chornohora range with Hoverla and the full sweep of the Polonynian Beskids.
