The Johannes Adit is one of the most fascinating mining monuments of the Ore Mountains (Krušné hory) - an underground visitor trail leading through historic mine workings, where spectacular chambers up to 60 metres long, 20 metres wide and 10-12 metres high have been preserved. This is where centuries of tin and metal ore mining history comes vividly to life.

The adit lies within the Zlatý kopec Nature Park, in a scenic border area with Germany, surrounded by spruce forests and remnants of old mining activity. In summer the landscape is lush and quiet, while in winter it takes on the raw, snowy character typical of the Ore Mountains' upland plateau. The area is also an important bat habitat - abandoned adits, including Johannes and the nearby Gottlieb, serve as winter roosts for several hundred bats of multiple species.

• The visitor trail through the adit was ceremonially opened on 24 April 2015
• The region was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List on 6 July 2019 as part of the Erzgebirge/Krušnohoří Mining Region
• Nearby, the Holubí skalky rock formations are worth a visit - among the most interesting geological outcrops in the whole of the Ore Mountains

Remarkably, over five years researchers ringed nearly 600 bats of 7 species in the Gottlieb and Johannes adits, making it one of the region's most significant bat hibernation sites.
