Schloss Welsberg is a medieval castle perched on a rocky plateau above the Casies stream, right at the entrance to Val di Casies, a side valley of Val Pusteria. It's a place where history and mountain scenery meet, offering a rewarding short escape for anyone exploring the region.

The castle sits on a steep rocky outcrop that drops sharply toward the stream below — a position deliberately chosen for natural defense. The surroundings feel peaceful and scenic in every season: lush green valleys in summer, colorful forests in autumn, and snow-capped Dolomite peaks in winter framing the old stone walls. Just minutes from the villages of Monguelfo and Tesido, it makes for an easy, atmospheric outing combining nature and history.

The original keep dates back to between 1126 and 1140, and despite a devastating fire in 1765, the castle still retains its evocative medieval atmosphere today.
