The Roháč Waterfalls are a hidden gem tucked away in the forested Spalená Valley of the Slovak Western Tatras — a place where the roar of cascading water, lush mountain greenery and easy trail access combine into a truly memorable experience. Whether you are a casual day-tripper or an ambitious hiker heading further into the mountains, this spot will not disappoint.

There are two waterfalls here. The Upper Roháč Waterfall (Vyšný Roháčsky vodopád), sitting at 1,340 m above sea level, is the larger and more impressive of the two — water thunders down a vertical rock step and then crashes along a steep, rocky channel for a total length of 23 m. The Lower Roháč Waterfall is wilder and less visited: a steeply inclined streambed choked with massive fallen logs, reached by a short beaten path starting near a tourist bench. Around both falls, rich mountain vegetation thrives — arnica, alpine lovage, bitter cress, plane-leaved buttercup and thick carpets of moss. Spring and summer bring intense greenery, while autumn wraps the whole scene in warm golden tones.

How to get there

• From the Adamcula junction (on the road through Roháč Valley) — yellow and blue trail, approx. 30 min, easy — a signed 100 m path branches off the main trail to the Upper Waterfall.
• The Lower Waterfall is reached by a short, unmarked beaten path from the same trail, beginning next to a wooden bench.

• Upper Roháč Waterfall elevation: 1,340 m a.s.l.; total length 23 m.
• Average water flow: 500–1,200 l/s — most powerful in spring snowmelt.
• The yellow trail continues to Banikovské Sedlo pass (approx. 2 hrs 35 min from the waterfall); the blue trail leads to Roháčske Pleso lakes and Roháč Buffet (approx. 1 hr from the waterfall).
