Helfenburk is a striking medieval castle ruin perched on Malošín hill at 668 metres, just 5.5 km from the town of Bavorov in the Strakonice district of South Bohemia. With centuries of Rosenberg family history baked into its stones and a lookout tower offering sweeping views across the Bohemian countryside, this is a wonderfully rewarding destination for history lovers and hikers alike.

The ruined walls rise dramatically above the surrounding forest, giving the site an unmistakably romantic atmosphere. In spring the meadows around the hill burst into colour, summer brings cool shade among the ancient stonework, and autumn drapes the woods in gold and red — every season has its own magic here. The terrain is moderate: the hill is not excessively steep, but the walk requires a reasonable level of fitness.

King Charles IV. personally authorised the construction of this castle in 1355 as a reward to the Rosenberg brothers for services rendered during his coronation journey to Rome — making Helfenburk not just a scenic ruin, but a place with a story that stretches all the way to the Holy Roman Empire.
