Hanička is one of the most intriguing destinations in the Orlické hory (Eagle Mountains) — an underground fortress built between 1936 and 1938 as part of Czechoslovakia's pre-war border defence system. Few places in Central Europe let you step so vividly into the tense atmosphere of a continent preparing for the worst.

The fortification sits in dense forest south of the Anenský vrch summit (991.5 m a.s.l.), above the town of Rokytnice v Orlických horách. The surrounding landscape is quintessential Eagle Mountains: tall spruce forests, quiet hiking trails, and fresh mountain air. The site is pleasantly cool in summer, making it a great escape from the heat, while autumn colours add a dramatic backdrop to the bunker visit. Winter access can be limited, so spring through autumn is the recommended season.
