Anenský vrch (997 m a.s.l.) is a rewarding summit on the main ridge of the Orlické hory (Eagle Mountains) in northeast Bohemia, packed with more history than its modest elevation might suggest. In a single short walk you will find a timber lookout tower, two intact Czechoslovak bunkers from 1937, and a freshly restored Marian column — a surprisingly rich combination for a forest hilltop.

The peak sits on the Anenský hřbet sub-ridge within the broader Orlické hory range. The landscape is classic Czech highland — rolling forested ridges with occasional clearings offering open views across the hills. The 17-metre wooden tower called 'Anna', erected in 2010 and renovated in 2024, lifts you above the treetops for a proper panorama. On misty autumn mornings the summit has an almost otherworldly feel, while summer brings a quiet, shaded retreat perfect for a picnic stop on the ridge trail.

How to reach the summit

• From the 'Anenský vrch (vyhl., odb.)' trail junction — red-marked spur trail, approx. 400 metres, easy — a short detour off the main red ridge trail known as Jiráskova cesta. The blue trail from Říčky v Orlických horách also passes through this junction.

Practical information

• Two Czechoslovak infantry bunkers from 1937 stand on the summit: R-S 84 'Arnošt' and R-S 85 'Anna' — well worth a closer look.
• The 'Anna' lookout tower was renovated in 2024, with its original wooden load-bearing columns replaced by steel ones — the structure is sturdy and safe.
• A restored Marian column was returned to the summit in 2024, having been removed in 1937 to make way for the bunker construction.

The peak was historically known as Arnoštka in Czech and Ernestinenberg in German — a chapel of St. Anne stood here from 1760 until 1937, when it was dismantled and relocated to the nearby hamlet of Hadinec.
