Favorit is a mysterious hunting château hidden within a deer park between Šindelová and Jindřichovice in the Ore Mountains (Krušné hory). Protected as a cultural monument, it is nevertheless crumbling and closed to the public - a fact that only deepens its enigmatic charm.

The surroundings are peaceful woodland scenery, with a small pond next to the château and a valley carved by the Skřiváň stream. The road from Šindelová is lined with an avenue of memorial larch trees, especially striking in autumn when golden needles frame the old architecture. In winter the area turns quiet and snow-covered, while summer brings lush greenery and shade - this is a spot for a calm walk rather than a strenuous hike.

How to get there

• Šindelová - via a local road partly overlapping with the blue trail from Vysoká Pec, continuing toward Jindřichovice - easy route
• Dolní Rotava - via the yellow marked trail leading directly to the château

Practical information

• The château is privately owned and closed to visitors - it can only be viewed from the outside
• Cycling route 2204 passes through from Šindelová, and route 2045 from Dolní Rotava ends here
• Nearby stands the baroque chapel of St. Teresa of Ávila from 1913, often mistakenly called the chapel of St. Hubert

Fun fact: in front of the château stand three allegorical statues by Jaroslav Plichta, a pupil of the famous sculptor Josef Myslbek, and near the chapel rises a massive stone cross from 1912, erected in memory of Countess Terezie Nostic.
