Legend has it that twelve wise men debated where to build the castle — eleven voted for the nearby hill of Kukla, but the youngest dissented, warning that spirits gathered there. Overnight, good fairies reportedly moved the foundations to the present site. Whether or not you believe the story, the castle has stood here beautifully for nearly five centuries.
