This section of the Lausitzer Schlange takes you from the dramatic sandstone cliffs of Saxon Switzerland all the way to the highest peak of the Lusatian Mountains. It's a trail that showcases just how varied this corner of Saxony really is - rugged rock formations one day, gentle forested hills the next.

Starting in Rathen, close to the famous Bastei rock formations, the trail winds through the scenic Polenztal and Kirnitzschtal valleys, passing Hinterhermsdorf and the Obere Schleuse area. It continues over the Wachberg and Ungerberg hills, through Neustadt and Berthelsdorf, before climbing to Valtenberg (589 m), the highest summit in the Lusatian Mountains. The route is marked in red (#e53e3e) and passes through dense forests, sandstone gorges, and quiet Upper Lusatian villages along the way.
