Hutberg is a modest wooded hill rising above the small town of Großschönau in Upper Lusatia, but it holds an outsized place in local hearts. Since the late 18th century it has been the traditional festival hill of the town, and its historic inn still anchors community life today.

The Mandau river curls around the hill's southern and western flanks, joined at its foot by the Lausur stream. The forested slopes give the summit a calm, intimate character rather than a dramatic alpine feel. From the Lichter Plan clearing in front of the Hutbergbaude inn, you get a fine view over Großschönau's town centre and church, framed by the peaks of the Lusatian Mountains - Luš, Weberberg and Tollenstein. In spring and summer the shaded paths make for an easy woodland stroll, autumn brings colourful foliage, and in winter the quiet trails are perfect for a short, peaceful walk away from the crowds.
