Ľubochnianske sedlo (701 m) is one of the most significant mountain passes in the western range of Veľká Fatra — a deep, well-defined saddle that has connected the Liptov and Turiec regions for centuries. If you enjoy crossroads of history and mountain scenery in Slovakia's Western Carpathians, this is a place worth seeking out.

The pass sits between the massive Kopa (1187 m) to the north and Tlstý diel (990 m) to the south, making it the lowest point on the western ridge of Veľká Fatra. Views open westward toward the Váh valley and the Turiec Basin, and eastward into the Ľubochnianka valley. A distinctive feature of the landscape is the wide corridor of cleared forest carrying two parallel high-voltage power lines from the Krpeľany hydroelectric plant — a striking industrial element against the wild backdrop. Spring and autumn bring moody mists rolling between the slopes, while summer offers lush greenery and clear ridge-top views.

A remarkable historical note: the imperial postal route from Vienna to Košice once ran through this pass, and in April 1945 the first Czechoslovak army units crossed here into the Turiec Basin. Locals still call it 'sedlo Fatra' or 'Vrchfatra' to this day.
