Ostré is a forested peak in the northern part of the Veľká Fatra mountains, hiding a surprisingly rocky summit and a wide panoramic view that few expect from such a densely wooded mountain. It's a great pick for hikers who want big views without the crowds.

The mountain closes off a north-south ridge that runs west of Komjatná and connects to the neighboring Havran massif via the Sedlo pod Ostrým saddle. The eastern slopes drop into the Komjatná stream valley, while the southern slopes descend toward the Váh river valley. The rocky summit offers a full circular view: to the south, the peaks of the northern Veľká Fatra dominate; to the west, you can see the Malá Fatra range and the nearby Šíp; to the east, Veľký Choč and the Low Tatras rise up, and on clear days even the High Tatras and Oravská Magura become visible. About 300 metres southwest of the main summit lies a second viewpoint marked with a cross, overlooking the village of Švošov. In autumn and winter, once the leaves fall, the views open up even more.

Though often overshadowed by better-known Veľká Fatra peaks, Ostré offers one of the more rewarding panoramic views in the Šípska Fatra area — well worth the detour from the main trails.
