The Fláje Reservoir is home to a true engineering rarity — the only hollow pillar-type dam of its kind in the Czech Republic. Tucked into the forested slopes of the Ore Mountains (Krušné hory), this reservoir offers a striking blend of industrial heritage and quiet mountain scenery.

The surrounding landscape is peaceful and slightly wild, with dense forests framing the long, narrow water surface that follows the valley of the Flájský stream. In summer, visitors come to admire the dam's unusual architecture and stroll along the shoreline trails; in autumn the hillsides turn gold and copper, while winter often blankets the area in snow, giving it a remote, austere beauty. Keep in mind that the reservoir itself is off-limits for swimming or entering the water, as it serves as a drinking water source.

• A first-degree protection zone covers the entire reservoir — no entry into the water is allowed

Fun fact: to mark the 50th anniversary of the dam's completion, the Czech Post issued a commemorative stamp in 2013 honoring this one-of-a-kind technical landmark.
