Fojtka Reservoir is a small, charming dam lake on the Fojtka stream in the village of Mníšek, just north of Liberec. It's a spot where you can combine a peaceful walk through the forest with a refreshing swim - in summer it becomes a popular local swimming hole.

The 7-hectare water surface is framed by wooded slopes that give the place a calm, intimate feel. The early 20th-century brick dam adds a touch of history to the scenery. In summer the shores fill with sunbathers, and the western bank is known as a nudist beach. In autumn and winter the reservoir takes on a quieter, more contemplative mood, perfect for a calm stroll.

How to get there

• From central Liberec - about 6 km north to the village of Mníšek, easy access by road, short walk to the reservoir
• A cycling and walking path circles the entire reservoir, accessible from several points in Mníšek

Practical information

• A nudist beach is located on the western shore
• Salmonid fish live in the water
• The path around the reservoir (about 1.5 km) is surfaced with crushed granite, partly running through forest with a footbridge

The dam was designed by Otto Intze, once considered the best water engineer in Europe, who designed all the dams in the Lusatian Neisse river basin.
