The Tuxertal is a side valley of the Zillertal in Tyrol, best known as the gateway to the Hintertux Glacier - Austria's only year-round ski area. It is a place where alpine tradition meets modern tourism infrastructure, framed by stunning views of the Tux Alps and Zillertal Alps.

The valley climbs gently from Mayrhofen up to Hintertux, with the landscape shifting from green meadows and farmsteads in the lower reaches to rugged glacial scenery at its head. In summer, the Tuxertal comes alive with hiking trails, mountain biking routes and climbing spots, while winter transforms it into a playground for skiers, complete with cross-country trails, toboggan runs and winter walking paths. The valley is notably more densely populated than other high valleys of the Zillertal, giving it a lively, authentic mountain community feel.

Fun fact: before the road was built, the valley was so remote that high-alpine farming was the only source of income, and poverty was widespread until tourism began to flourish.
