Svišťovská Valley is one of the truly wild corners of the High Tatras — untouched, off-limits, and all the more fascinating for it. Tucked between the north-western and north-eastern ridges of the Svišťovky peaks, this side branch of Široká Valley preserves a pristine glacial landscape that few people ever set foot in.
Stretching about 1.5 km in length, the valley contains three remarkable glacial cirques arranged in terraces, one above the other, like a natural staircase carved by ancient ice. These unnamed basins are a textbook example of glacial geomorphology in the Tatras. In spring, snowfields linger long in the hollows; in summer, alpine vegetation takes over; and in autumn, the whole scene glows with warm golden hues. The atmosphere is one of absolute wilderness and deep mountain silence.
How to get thereThe valley takes its name from the nearby Svišťovky peaks, and should not be confused with the similarly named Svišťová Valley located beneath the Polish Ridge — a detail worth keeping in mind when planning your Tatra adventures.
