Stroupeč is a small but fascinating nature reserve set on steep, south-facing slopes above the Ohře river valley, right next to the village of Stroupeč in the Louny district. This is a spot for nature lovers who want something different from the usual mountain views - here the stars are heat-loving insects, including a rare Czech endemic beetle, Cylindromorphus bohemicus.

The landscape is made up of terraced slopes covered with shrubs and scattered trees, with remnants of an old orchard hidden among them, and vineyards once grew here long ago. The steppe-like character of this place feels more like southern Moravia than typical Czech countryside - it's dry, steep and sun-baked. In summer the slopes buzz with countless insects, while spring brings rare steppe flowers into bloom. Views over the Ohře valley add a sense of calm, and the absence of crowds makes it a genuinely peaceful escape.

How to get there

• Stroupeč village - along the road running through the village towards Stroupeček, easy route, walking on marked paths
• Žiželice - starting point for approaching the reserve from the east
