Tucked away in the South Bohemian countryside, the Melhutka stream valley hides one of the region's most enchanting spring surprises. The Hrádeček nature monument is where rocky gorges, forested slopes and a carpet of white spring snowflakes come together to create something truly special. If you enjoy quiet, off-the-beaten-track walks in unspoiled nature, this little valley will not disappoint.

The heart of the protected area is a roughly 700-metre-long section where the Melhutka stream cuts through the massif of Velký Hrádeček (571 m a.s.l.) and Malý Hrádeček (509 m a.s.l.). Here the valley narrows dramatically, with rocky cliffs rising on both sides and small scree patches scattered below them. Above and below this gorge section, the valley opens up into gentle, lush stream meadows. In early spring, the valley floor is transformed by masses of blooming spring snowflakes (Leucojum vernum) — the very reason this site is protected. In autumn, golden foliage and the sound of the stream make the walk equally rewarding.
