The Nýrsko Reservoir is a quiet and scenic dam lake nestled in the rolling hills of the Bohemian Forest, just south of the town of Nýrsko. With its forested shores, calm waters and unhurried atmosphere, it makes for a perfect detour for anyone exploring this part of the Czech-Bavarian borderlands.

The reservoir sits in a gentle valley surrounded by typical Šumava woodland. In spring the fresh green of the trees reflects in the still water, while autumn transforms the hillsides into a warm palette of reds and yellows. Built between 1965 and 1969, the dam has a crest length of 320 metres. Since 1996 it also generates electricity using Bánki-type water turbines — a quiet reminder that this beautiful lake also has a practical side.
