Zwercheck (1334 m a.s.l.) is a quietly charming summit in the northwestern Bohemian Forest, sitting right on the border between the Czech Republic and Germany. It's the kind of peak where you can stand with one foot in Bohemia and the other in Bavaria — and feel the deep, unhurried stillness of the Královský hvozd (Royal Forest).

The summit is wrapped in dense coniferous woodland typical of the Šumava highlands. The atmosphere is calm and a little mysterious, especially in early morning mist or under a fresh blanket of snow. To the east, just 1.5 km away, rises Jezerní hora (Lake Mountain), separated from Zwercheck by a shallow saddle at 1319 m. That saddle once held the Juránek mountain hut — a 50-bed refuge built in 1932 that sadly burned down before the Second World War.

How to reach the summit:

• Marked hiking trails lead to Zwercheck exclusively from the German (Bavarian) side. Check local Bavarian Forest trail maps before setting out.

Practical information:

• The summit sits directly on the Czech-German state border — reaching the top means crossing an international boundary.
• There are no marked trails approaching from the Czech side; all signed routes come from Bavaria.

According to an 1878 hiking guide, a wooden lookout tower once stood just below the summit, offering views all the way to Černé jezero (Black Lake) — a reminder that this quiet border ridge has been drawing curious walkers for well over a century.
