Pancíř is one of the most inviting summits of the Šumava mountains — easy to reach yet full of genuine highland character. At the top you'll find a historic mountain hut with a lookout tower, plus a quirky photo spot: a freestanding wooden door frame in the middle of the landscape.
The Pancíř ridge is broad and flat, covered mostly in spruce forest with fir, beech, and rowan mixed in, while remnants of beech woods survive on the southeastern slopes. Views stretch across the Šumava range, and the mood shifts with the seasons — a relaxed cycling destination in summer, a snowy winter escape for skiers and walkers. Just to the east lies the Prameniště nature reserve, known for its peat bogs.
How to reach the summit
Practical information
Fun fact: since autumn 2019, an open wooden door installation has stood on the summit, created by the We Love Šumava association — it's only in place from 1 May to 31 December, removed each winter for safety and snow-clearing reasons.
