Neuer Galgenteich is a peaceful pond in the Eastern Ore Mountains, part of the historic Galgenteich pond system near Altenberg that has been tied to tin mining for centuries. Today it's a quiet spot for hiking, cycling and simply enjoying time by the water.

The surrounding landscape is gentle and typical of the Eastern Ore Mountains - coniferous forests, meadows and small stream valleys create a calm setting throughout the year. In summer the area comes alive thanks to a nearby swimming spot and campsite, while in winter the paths turn quiet and snowy. Close by lies the Speicher Altenberg, a reservoir built below the Großer Galgenteich that supplies drinking water and provides flood protection for the region.
