Livanjsko Polje is the largest karst field in the world and one of the most fascinating wetland areas in the Balkans. This is a place where mountains, rivers and vast plains combine to create a landscape unlike anywhere else in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Encircled by the peaks of Dinara, Kamešnica, Tušnica, Cincar, Golija, Šator and Staretina, the field's character changes dramatically with the seasons - in spring and autumn much of the terrain floods, while summer transforms it into dry pastures and farmland. Rivers such as Bistrica, Sturba and Žabljak wind across the plain, supporting fish and waterbirds. It's a place of quiet, open space and endless sky.
