Kočinje brdo is a modest but historically rich hill in Dalmatia, marking the natural gateway between the Split coast and the Zagora hinterland. It's a place where the past is almost tangible - a Roman road once crossed here, and during World War II it became the scene of fierce fighting for Split.
The hill forms the western edge of the Dugopolje plateau and offers sweeping views toward Mosor, Klis Grlo and the valley leading to Split. The landscape is classic Dalmatian karst - rocky slopes, sparse Mediterranean vegetation and stony paths. Summers here are hot and dry, while winters can turn the mountain pass treacherous, with snow and ice making the road dangerous even for vehicles with winter equipment.
