Iwaniacka Valley is one of those quietly rewarding corners of the Western Tatras that feels like a well-kept secret. Nestled between the slopes of Kominiarski Wierch and Ornak, it stretches from the Starorobociańska Valley all the way up to Iwaniacka Pass at 1,459 m — and almost every step of the way is cushioned by a dense spruce forest and the gentle sound of a mountain stream.

The valley has a wonderfully enclosed, atmospheric feel. Carved through red quartzite sandstone, its walls hide more than a dozen small caves and rock shelters — a pleasant surprise for curious hikers. The Iwaniacki Stream running along the valley floor occasionally disappears entirely, swallowed by the permeable rock beneath. Spring brings fresh greenery, autumn wraps the valley in contrast between dark spruce and golden meadow edges, and winter turns it into a place of deep, peaceful silence.

• From Chochołowska Valley — yellow trail, via Iwanówka meadow through the valley to Iwaniacka Pass and onward to Ornak mountain hut. Approx. 2 h 15 min, return approx. 2 h 05 min. Difficulty: moderate.

The valley takes its name from the Iwanówka meadow at its lower end — once a busy grazing ground, it has long since been reclaimed by the forest, adding to the sense of wild, unhurried nature.
