Batizovské Oká is a cluster of tiny mountain pools perched at around 2200 metres above sea level in the High Tatras — making them among the highest natural water collectors in the entire range. Hidden away on the uppermost terrace of Batizovská Valley, they feel like the Tatras' best-kept secret.

The pools sit on the so-called Vyšná Batizovská Roveň, a high rocky plateau framed by dramatic ridges. The landscape here is raw and purely alpine: bare stone, patches of snow that often linger well into summer, and still water reflecting the grey-blue sky. The atmosphere is wonderfully remote and quiet — the kind of place where you stop, sit down, and simply breathe. In early summer delicate alpine plants push through the rock crevices; by late summer the plateau is almost entirely deserted, offering a rare sense of true solitude.

How to get there

• Tatranská Polianka or Starý Smokovec — via Batizovská Valley up to Vyšná Batizovská Roveň; demanding route, recommended for experienced hikers only.

Practical information

• The area falls within the Tatra National Park — stay strictly on marked trails at all times.
• Seasonal access: the route may be impassable outside summer due to snow and ice at this altitude.

At roughly 2200 m, these tiny pools sit almost as high as the nearby Baranie Pliesko (2207 m), making Batizovské Oká one of the loftiest water-filled spots in the entire Tatra mountain range.
