Sławkowská hrebeň is a wild, untamed ridge in the Slovak High Tatras, reserved almost entirely for experienced mountaineers rather than casual hikers. If you're after remote, rugged terrain far from marked trails, this is a place worth knowing about.

The ridge stretches between Sławkowský štít and Staroleský štít, separating the Sławkowská Valley from the Staroleská Valley. The landscape is jagged and dramatic, made up of a series of rocky humps, notches and saddles that give the ridge its distinctive silhouette. In summer it reveals the raw character of the High Tatras, while in winter the terrain becomes serious and demanding, suitable only for well-prepared alpinists.

How to reach the summit

• No marked tourist trails lead to any of the ridge's features except the summit of Sławkowský štít itself — access is strictly off-trail, mountaineering terrain.
• Route-finding requires prior alpine experience and ideally local knowledge of the area.

Practical information

• This is essentially climbers-only terrain with no tourist infrastructure along the ridge.
• The first complete traverse of the ridge was made by Alfred Martin on 1 June 1905, and the first winter traverse by Władysław Krygowski on 13 March 1928.
