Rosskopf rises to 2576 metres in the Tux Alps, ranking as the ninth-highest peak in the range. What makes it truly unique is its summit cross — the meeting point of three municipal borders: Fügenberg, Weerberg and Hippach.

The surroundings offer a wild, high-alpine character — north of the summit lie several small lakes and the source area of the Finsingbach stream, while rocky ridges stretch toward Breitenkopf, Dreispitzkopf and Rastkogel on one side, and Pfundsjoch and Gilfert on the other. In summer it's a rewarding hike across grassy slopes and rocky ridgelines, while in winter it becomes a moderately demanding ski touring destination.

How to reach the summit

• Parking at the Zillertaler Höhenstraße (near the Jausenstation am Melchboden) — hiking trail, approx. 3 hours, via Schafleitenalm to the Rastkogelhütte, then over the Sidanjoch to the summit; the final stretch crosses steep grassy slopes and is demanding.
• Alternatively from Hochfügen — about 2 hours to the Sidanjoch, then onward via marked paths to the summit.

Practical information

• The Rastkogelhütte can serve as an overnight base for the hike.
• In winter, a moderately difficult ski tour is possible — from the Sidantal or from the Rastkogelhütte via the Sidanjoch.
• An ascent by ski from Hochfügen through the Finsinggrund is also possible.

Few mountains can claim that three municipalities literally meet at their summit cross — Rosskopf is one of them.
