Popova skála (568 m a.s.l.) is a striking sandstone tor in the Lusatian Mountains that looks, from a distance, just like a ruined medieval castle. It is one of those places where nature has done all the dramatic work — and the reward at the top is a superb panoramic view.

The rocky summit rises above the surrounding forest, and around its base you will find sculpted rock bowls, hollows, a cluster of small caves and a natural rock gate. The views from the top stretch across the Lusatian and Zittau Mountains in all directions. The peak sits in the northeastern corner of the Lusatian Mountains Protected Landscape Area, barely 700 metres from the Czech-German border, making it a rewarding destination on any cross-border hike. The atmosphere is great year-round — fresh and green in spring, rich in colour in autumn.

• Dolní Sedlo (approx. 2 km) — nearest bus stop, connects to the blue trail, easy
• Former border crossing Petrovice/Lückendorf (approx. 4.5 km to the west) — along the International Educational Trail of the Lusatian and Zittau Mountains, easy

• The summit has been accessible since 1907 — a metal staircase with railings leads right to the top of the rock
• Hrádek nad Nisou has good domestic and international rail connections, making this an easy car-free trip
• The peak is located roughly 700 m from the German border — cross-border hikes from Lückendorf are popular

In 1934 part of the summit section was reinforced with masonry to prevent rock slides — a small historical detail worth noticing as you climb the stairs.
